Wesleyan Foundation for Men supports ministries that help men grow spiritually, but also that provide opportunity to make a difference in the world. An example of a ministry that benefits countless families is the United Methodist Disaster Response in the Rio Texas Conference.
One of the clearest success stories comes from a flood-affected family in Las Milpas, Pharr, Texas:
- Floodwaters left the home with over 3 feet of water damage
- The family lived for 7+ months in unsafe, mold-damaged conditions
- FEMA assistance was limited and did not cover repairs
What Rio Texas UMC did:
- Coordinated a Long-Term Recovery Team
- Brought in volunteers from another conference (Christ UMC, Farmers Branch)
- Completed:
- Mold removal
- Drywall replacement
- Structural repairs
Outcome:
- The home became safe and habitable again
- The family regained stability, health, and hope
👉 The effort was described as bringing “meaningful progress and renewed hope” to the family
